What is Follow the Clucking Money?

City budgets shape nearly every aspect of daily life, yet they're often wrapped in confusing jargon and buried in lengthy documents.

Follow the Clucking Money is helping make municipal finance more understandable and accessible. We're exploring how cities across the country present budget information in clear, engaging ways.

Through workshops, community conversations, easy-to-understand materials, and interactive tools, we're helping residents build the knowledge and confidence to participate more meaningfully in conversations about Petaluma's future. When citizens and leaders share a common understanding of the city's finances, we can have better discussions—and make better decisions—together.
